Refurbished London Store
Since our establishment in 1937, Benson & Clegg has become synonymous with fine tailoring and sartorial excellence, setting the standard for well-dressed gentlemen across the world. Over 80 years later, we continue to set that standard with the launch of our newly transformed Jermyn Street store.
The Piccadilly Arcade, with its grand Edwardian aesthetic, stands as proudly today as it did when it first opened over 100 years ago. With its rich history and stunning architecture, the arcade is an epicentre for men’s style and home to some of the finest purveyors of luxury in the world, a relaxing thoroughfare where time, momentarily, stands still. It is at number 9 Piccadilly Arcade that Benson & Clegg first took up residency in 1976, serving the great and the good of London’s high society as we had done for so many years prior on St James's Bury Street, just a stone’s throw away.
Benson & Clegg soon established itself among the luminaries of the arcade, setting our own impeccable standard as master tailors and gentlemen’s outfitters, soon coming to prominence as the only true bespoke tailoring house within the St James’s district. Over 40 years later, we continue to take pride in being able to hold such a title and for Mark Gordon, Benson & Clegg’s Managing Director, it only seemed right that the company had a home befitting of such an accolade, thus justifying the need for change after over 40 years of remaining untouched.
“It was always my priority that the new store and tailoring lounge should reflect the history and heritage of the company – that of traditional craftsmanship combined with a contemporary aesthetic – while always delivering a truly unique and personal experience to the customer.”
Our premises has undergone some major changes over the past few months. The refurbishment has been focused on maintaining the fabric and heritage of the brand while creating a relaxing but luxurious environment. On the ground floor, customers can now enjoy an exquisite new retail space complete with impressive parquet flooring, grand dark wood cabinetry and atmospheric lighting, all designed to showcase our carefully curated ready to wear collection. Standing at the centre of the shop is an island which is home to our most exclusive range of cufflinks. In addition, there is the opportunity for customers to explore further our rich heritage, with a newly installed public archive which, among other things, explores our enduring relationship with the British royal family.
Tailoring, of course, is at the forefront of what we do and, much in the spirit of Messrs Benson and Clegg, it was our intention to create a wholly unique atmosphere for our clients – more private members club than traditional tailors’ shop.
Clients can now enjoy consultations and fittings in the rich surroundings of our sumptuous tailoring lounge. The sense of clutter has been replaced with a grand cutting board, spacious lounge area and custom-built bar, all designed with the intention of giving clients a wholly unique experience.
